For President Steve Barrs, C.A. Barrs Contractor Inc. has not only been a business, but it also has given him the satisfaction of watching personal growth among employees. "I’ve enjoyed the people that I’ve worked with, and I’ve enjoyed seeing people grow in their careers," he says.

For instance, the company’s head estimator, Erik Turkovich, started working as a laborer. “He now runs our estimating department," Barrs says. “There are a lot of people who have grown up in this business." His mother, Doris, started at the company in 1978, left while her children grew up and returned in 2000 for the second part of her career.
